Beginning literacy is the knowledge and skills that precede learning to read and write. During the pre-school years, children develop language skills that are prerequisite to their later schooling success. Junior Kindergarten teachers face the challenge of creating classrooms that remain play-based yet still prepare students for the literacy-rich world in which they live. This session will explore pre-school language acquisition and how quality programming can help improve children’s language and literacy skills.
